Terms of Service

Snapsmaps is a place to share photos pinned to where you took them. These terms cover who can use it, what you can post, what happens when someone breaks the rules, and how to get something taken down.

The short version

  • You need to be at least 13 to use Snapsmaps.
  • Your photos stay yours. You give us permission to show them to the people you choose, and nothing more.
  • No sexual content, no nude photos of real people, and nothing that harms children. Photos of art are fine.
  • If an intimate image of you is posted without your consent, you can ask us to remove it without an account. We remove it within 48 hours.

Using Snapsmaps

These terms are an agreement between you and Snapsmaps. By creating an account or using snapsmaps.com, you agree to them and to the rules below.

  • You must be at least 13. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using online services without a parent's consent (16 in parts of the EU), you must be at least that age. If we learn an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.
  • Your account is yours. Use an email address you can get to, keep your password and sign-in methods to yourself, and don't sell, share or hand over your account. You're responsible for what happens on it.
  • If we ban your account, don't create another one without asking us first.

Your snaps

  • You own what you post. Your photos, captions, comments and profile stay yours. Posting them on Snapsmaps doesn't change that.
  • You give us permission to show it. When you post something, you give Snapsmaps a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, resize, display and deliver it, only to run Snapsmaps: showing it to the people you chose and to anyone with a share link to it, in feeds, maps and Explore, and in link previews for snaps for everyone. The license ends when you delete it, except for copies we keep as moderation records or in short-lived backups, as the Privacy Policy explains. We can't recall copies other people already saved.
  • Only post what you have the right to. Post photos you took, or ones you have permission to share. You're responsible for what you post.
  • Share links travel. Anyone with a link to a snap or trip can open it without an account, and can pass the link on. Anyone can share a link to a snap or trip for everyone; only you can share your followers-only and private snaps and trips, and you can turn those links off at any time.
  • Mind what your pins give away. An exact pin shows exactly where a photo was taken. Choose “Town or park only” or turn location off when a spot is private, such as your home or someone else's.

Content rules

These rules cover everything on Snapsmaps: snaps, captions, comments, collections and profiles, whoever can see them, including snaps set to Only me.

  • Nudity and sexual content. Don't post sexual content or nude photos of real people, including at beaches or hot springs. Photos of art are fine: statues, paintings, murals and museum pieces. That doesn't extend to explicit drawings or AI-generated images, and anything sexualizing a minor is banned in any form.
  • Children. Never post anything that sexualizes a child or shows a child being abused. We remove it, ban the account and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as US law requires.
  • Intimate images without consent. Don't post nude or sexual images of anyone without their consent, including fakes or AI-generated images that look like a real person. See how to get one removed.
  • Harassment and hate. Don't bully, threaten or harass anyone, or attack people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • Other people's privacy. Don't post someone's home address, phone number or other private details, pin where someone lives without their permission, or use Snapsmaps to track or follow someone.
  • Graphic content. Mark gory or disturbing snaps, like serious injuries or accidents, as sensitive when you post them. Don't post anything that celebrates violence or encourages someone to hurt themselves.
  • Illegal content. Don't post anything illegal, or use Snapsmaps to buy, sell or promote illegal goods or services.
  • Spam and pretending. No spam, ads, scams, fake accounts or fake engagement, and don't pretend to be someone you're not.
  • The site itself. Don't try to break or overload Snapsmaps, get around its security or limits, scrape it in bulk, or reach accounts or snaps you aren't allowed to see.

The sensitive switch blurs a snap until someone taps it. Use it for snaps that are allowed but that people may not want to see unexpectedly. It doesn't make banned content allowed.

Reports and enforcement

If something breaks these rules, use Report on the snap, comment or profile. Snapsmaps admins review every report, and a snap reported by several people may be hidden until they do.

We decide whether something breaks these rules. When it does, we may mark a snap sensitive, remove it, make an account read-only, ban it or delete it, depending on how serious it is. We can act without warning when something is serious or illegal, and we report illegal content to the authorities when the law requires it or when someone's safety is at risk.

Think we got it wrong? Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we'll take another look.

Intimate images shared without consent

If a nude or sexual image of you is on Snapsmaps without your consent, whether it's real or fake, you can ask us to remove it. You don't need an account, and someone you trust can ask on your behalf.

  • How to ask. Fill in the takedown request form. If you'd rather email, send [email protected] links to the snaps (or how to find them), your full name as your signature, a statement that you believe in good faith the image was shared without consent, and how to reach you.
  • What we do. We remove the image within 48 hours of getting a valid request, look for copies of it on Snapsmaps and remove those too, and act against the account that posted it. Removed photos are erased, not just hidden.
  • Help elsewhere. StopNCII.org can help stop the same images being shared on other large sites. If the image was taken when you were under 18, use Take It Down, and report it to the CyberTipline. If you're in danger, contact your local police.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings; the Privacy Policy explains what happens next. We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if your account puts other people or Snapsmaps at risk. The parts of these terms about content you've posted, disclaimers and liability still apply after an account ends.

Snapsmaps itself

  • Things change. We keep working on Snapsmaps, so features can change or go away. If we ever shut Snapsmaps down, we'll try to give you notice first so you can save your photos.
  • Maps can be wrong. Maps and place names come from MapTiler and OpenStreetMap and aren't always accurate. Don't rely on Snapsmaps to navigate or stay safe, and don't trespass or put yourself in danger for a photo.
  • Other people's snaps are theirs, not ours. We don't check everything before it appears, and we aren't responsible for what other people post or for the sites that links take you to.

Disclaimers and liability

Snapsmaps is free and provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. We don't promise it will always be available, secure or free of errors, or that your content will never be lost, so keep your own copies of photos that matter to you.

As far as the law allows, Snapsmaps and the people who run it aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, and our total liability for any claim about Snapsmaps is limited to $100. If you break these terms or the law and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs, as far as the law allows.

Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Montana and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

If you have a problem with Snapsmaps, email [email protected] first; most things can be sorted out that way. If we can't resolve it within 30 days, either of us can take it to the state courts of Montana or the US District Court for the District of Montana, and we both agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Either of us can bring a claim in small claims court instead, where it qualifies.

If you live outside the US, nothing here takes away your right to bring a claim in the courts where you live, or protections your local law gives you that can't be waived.

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll ask you to agree to the new terms the next time you open Snapsmaps. If you don't want to, you can delete your account instead.
